Strategy,

Tips, and Tricks

Always remember, going against a computer is one thing, going against a human is something else.

Against the Computer:

The key advantage of the computer is its ability to undergo multiply operations at the same time.  The computer also cheats by building units and structures much faster than you can.  Generally, the computer will always attempt a rush attack (multiplayer/custom).  The scenario missions are really easy.  The computer poses little challenge there.  When you start to play in the custom games is where things get tricky.  The computer becomes more human like, and becomes more effective at winning.

When going against a human player, you have to build as fast as possible and just attempt to overwhelm the other person.  There is no real solid tactic in taking out a human player.  Make sure your base is heavily defended.  The best time to attack your opponent is right after they attack you, give them no time to recover forces.  Attacking from multiple angles will also throw your opponent off guard.  Find a weak spot ad keep going.  Once it seems that your attack is failing, just press on, bring in reinforcements and never relent.  Generally, when you attack a human player they tend to overreact.

Another good tip is always upgrade and always focus on the closest single unit at a time.  Force the enemy to have to come you so you can start shooting at them first.  Retreating better ground is also a good strategy.  And always build mixed attack squads.  Relying on one type of unit is not always a good idea.

Terran

In the beginning, build about 7 or 8 SCVs.  With the last SCV build a Barracks.  While the Barracks is under construction, use another SCV to build a supply depot.  While doing all of this, make more SCVs, and a Vespene Gas Extractor.  As soon as the Barracks is done start spitting out as many Marines as possible.  make about 12.  While making the marines,  make more SCVs and another supply depot, and an Academy.  In general, you should never stop making SCVs until you have about 20 to 30 of them.  I sometimes have around 40 SCVs.  When the Academy is done build another Barracks, an engineering bay, and make Firebats and Medics.  By now you should have a small army of ground troops.  Start defending the opening to your base with bunkers and rocket launchers.  While doing this make a factory.  Everything is pretty straight forward from here.

When attacking the enemy I find that the best strategy is attacking in mass.  Also, it is a good idea to have multiple Science Vessels  and Comsat Centers to see cloaked units.  Once you have maxed out you supplies, then build as many Goliaths and Wraiths as possible.  Then just direct them into the enemy base at the same time.  Basically, your giving the enemy too many targets to shoot at.  When your troops get to the base they will automatically start attacking any enemy target in range.  Generally, the will shoot anything that is an immediate threat first.  You have to direct them somewhat because once everything in their immediate area is destroyed, they stop shooting.  Just move them into the action.  While this is happening, you are going to lose troops, so just make more and send them in when they are built.  The enemy will be overwhelmed.

Protos

Pretty much the same as above except, you need to build a Pylon before the Gateway.  Also a good combination early on are Zealots and Dragoons.  In general, most people who use Protos like to build just a huge amount of Dragoons.  Unfortunately,  A good defense like Siege Tanks and Lurkers can wipe them out.  The best plan is to have a mixed group of Dragoons, Zealot and Dark Templars with Reavers.  With Protos you also want to build allot of observers so you can see cloaked units.  The rest is pretty easy.  Very similar to the above, overwhelm the enemy.

Zerg

Just to let you know, I really do not like to use Zerg.  I am probably not the best person to ask on how to use Zerg, but I have learn allot from playing against them.  The key to Zerg is speed.  Zerg build units very fast, but get week in the end.  The best thing to do if you are Zerg is to try to get allot Lurkers and Hydalisks early.  Mutalisks and Guardian swarms works also.  A good thing to do early is to build a second base and send the Overlords around to try to find where the enemy is as fast as possible.  Sending in Zerglings early is also a good trick to slow down the enemy early.
